In an alleged case of road rage and anger, a photo journalist was attacked by a cab driver of a Kitchen call centre on Friday evening. The victim was thrashed with his own helmet and sustained serious amounts of injuries to his right ear. The accused man has been arrested and a case will soon be lodged against him.

Police have said the incident occurred because of a coming together of the victim’s two-wheeler and the mans cab. Though there was no damage to the cab, the driver pounced on the victim (like an animal) and started beating him excessively. The victim (who will remain unidentified to protect him), was rescued by passers-by and the accused caught and handed over to the local police.

Hopefully he will serve a long time for this so this will not be happening again any time soon.

You better believe it! Electric cars will reduce pollution and save money on gas, the city says.

New York’s yellow cab market is about to get a jolt. Six new all-electric Nissan Leaf taxis are set to hit the city streets this Thursday, kicking off a year-long pilot program to test the so called “environment friendly cars”. A respected Mayor said the electric vehicles “will put us ahead of the curve in helping us answer important questions about incorporating electric taxis onto the market.”

The city has set a goal of making a third of its 13 thousand medallion cabs electric within the next 7 years.

“These all-electric LEAF cabs will help us determine the best way to seamlessly integrate electric vehicles into the taxi industry’s 24/7 business and operational models,” “Our next steps on the road to a more environmentally responsible and fuel-efficient future for the taxi industry are crucial ones,” as said by a Taxi and Limousine Commissioner.

Tests have shown that the new yellow taxis will produce 70% less carbon dioxide than an average car.

A Women from Dartmouth who is legally blind and uses her guide dog to get around was left stranded out side a grocery store when the driver refused to take her guide dog.

The driver should have been made fully aware of who he was picking up as the women in the grocery stores had stated that it was a women with her guide dog.

Once the driver had arrived they packed Mrs Sheppard’s Groceries into the trunk of the car and as she put her dog in the back seat she realised one of the front seats where pushed to far forward and she kindly asked him if he could make room for the dog.

Linda Sheppard said: ”So I said to the cab driver, ‘Could you please push the passenger seat ahead?’ and in reply the driver said: ’No. I am not taking you and he proceeded to take my groceries out of the trunk and left both of us on the curb,”

As we draw closer to summer there could be some bad news for taxi drivers who usually enjoy their work wearing very colourful Hawaiian shirts, Vests, flip flops, and anything that is revealing and unprofessional in a bid to give the cab drivers a smart and professional look.

The council’s report states: “The purpose of a driver’s dress code is to seek a minimum standard of dress that provides a positive image of the Hackney carriage and private hire trade,

“It must enhance a professional image of licensed drivers and ensure public and driver safety is not compromised.”

“Acceptable clothing includes dress shirts, tops covering the shoulders and footwear that fits around the heel.”

Maidstone borough council will have the chance to vote if they are with or against the new look but it is heard that the proposed change is not going well with most of the taxi drivers.

Taxi driver Steven Hunt said: “If the council think they can tell me what to wear, they can think again, in the summer, I’m in shorts and a T-shirt and a pair of sandals that are suitable for driving.

“I’m not going to be driving about in the sweltering heat in a shirt and tie.”

Taxi Drivers in Las Vegas have entered the second day of their strike Yellow Checker Star Transportation.

As a response and to keep things running smoothly the Nevada Taxicab Authority have issued 20 new temporary operating permits known as medallions to 13 of the taxi brands that are not facing work stoppage.

Paul Bohelski, senior international representative for the Office and Professional Employees International Union said : ”Quite frankly, there is minimal impact on the community at the moment, we are looking to have maximum impact on the company.”

Bill Shranko, Chief operating officer saidf that the company was able to fill about 2/3 of its cars however drivers lined up at the entrance which left the company 200 down.

The taxi driver Metin Akin has been fined for refusing a blind couple and their guide dogs a lift from their home in Ipswich.

Martin Roberts and Clare Burman had booked the cab to pick them up from their home but as soon as Mr. Akin had heard that he may have to provide travel for the dogs he quickly refused suggesting he did not want animals on his leather seats as they may ruin the leather.

After waiting 15 minutes they rang the Cab service up to question what was taking so long where they found out that Metin Akin did not want their dogs to damage his seats.

The driver later claimed that he was allergic to dogs and that when he was younger he had an incident with a dog and now he is scared of them and he also added he did not think that his car was big enough for the two dogs.

Akin aged 32 was fined £165 and order pay £1233.50 in costs after he admitted refusing the couple his service.

Mr Roberts said : ‘I had used the taxi company lots of times in the past without any problem.

‘The operator told me that they were sending another car because the nearest driver was refusing to pick us up as he had leather seats and was concerned about our dogs.

‘Apparently the operator told him that it was the law that he had to pick us up, but he still refused.

‘It was a ridiculous reason because guide dogs are trained not to climb on furniture or sit on seats.

‘are always well behaved and sit in the footwells of cars or go in the boot of hatchbacks if the parcel shelf is out.

‘Clare usually sits at the front of cabs with the seat pushed back and Malone at her feet and Vikki goes in the back in the rear footwell next to me.

‘All taxi drivers are required to carry guide dogs unless they have a certificate giving them exemption for medical reasons.

‘We felt embarrassed and humiliated. Imagine if you were denied a cab ride because of the sex or the colour of your skin? It is discrimination.

‘I decided to make a stand by complaining to the council and they were very sympathetic. I am glad that they pursued the case in court.

‘I want this to send a message out to other taxi drivers that they have to abide by the law. I want to speak out because there might be other blind people who don’t feel confident enough to do so.’

In New York, helicopters have long been the preferred form of transport for the rich, famous and those in a hurry. In London, cabs and minicabs are still the quickest way to get around. However, within a few years it might be different. Tourists and businessmen enjoy new attractions and ventures and helicopters to hire might be a good idea to suit a new market.

So when will helicopters be allowed for sightseeing in London? It might only be a matters of years following more buildings like The Shard rise in London. Tourists enjoy a good experience and helicopter tours are exactly that.

However, LondonCabs.co.uk still recommend New York visitors to try a helicopter tour around New York City. It’s cheap (from around £80), extremely fun and gives your amazing photos to show friends and family.

The maker of London’s traditional taxi’s is set to double the number staff as they plan to produce more of the traditional taxi’s under their new owners ‘Geely’ who are a Chinese company that save the London taxi company from going into administration.

Geely are expected to add around 100 jobs this year after 156 people lost their job in the Coventry factory when the Manganese fell into administration and Geely positively would like to keep the plant which produces the taxi and currently has 107 people employed their. Peter Johansen, the former finance director of Manganese who is now executive vice president of the London Taxi Company said ”Geely is committed to retaining the facility in Coventry,” He later added ”The factory in Coventry will continue to manufacture taxis. That’s the home of the taxis.”

A new £20 million terminal without luxury cabs are being created at Luton Airport. The new terminal is set to open for business travelers in 2015 and it will look considerable different from the current terminal at Luton airport.

“Our aim is to build the UK’s finest business jet terminal”, says Joe Gibney, the managing director of Signature in EMEA to newspaper LutonToday. Signature flight (www.signatureflight.com) is a multinational company, flying business people on 1,000 routes around the world from airports across the globe. Their MD explains that Lutons new luxury terminal will require about 100 new employees and 300 indirect jobs. So it’s certainly good for the north London region. But there are still no plans of luxury cabs – so we assume that LondonCabs.co.uk should be good enough to the business jet clients.

According to LutonToday, the town is believed to host the busiest airport for business travellers in the United Kingdon after launching of the new terminal at Luton airport. If you need a cab from London to Luton or vice versa, please call us at 0207 2052677 for a free quote.

After a few days with heavy snowfall, it’s clear that Stansted can handle snow better than other airports in London. Over 95 % of flights from Stansted have departed on Saturday and Sunday. While quite a few flights have experienced delays, the track record is clear. Even with heavy snowfall, Stansted can cope and handle it. Perhaps it’s no surprise that Stansted have been vote the best airport for low-cost airlines two years in a row by 12 million passengers from 100 different countries.

However, Gatwick airport departures are currently also doing well. Yesterday
there were more cancelled and delayed flights than today. Worst statistics can be Heathrow airport, with over 260 cancelled flights on Sunday (around 20 % cancelled flights). It’s the third day in a row with poor departure statistics from Heathrow.

London Cabs are still surprised that one of the world’s most busy airports cannot do proper investments in snow ploughs. Send those people working with clearing the runways to Scandinavia or to Russia, where airports can handle several days of snowfall with less or no interruption..
